Life is full of surprises, and sometimes, even the simplest moments can leave us laughing, reflecting, or both. Take this scene, for instance:
“May we share the grace”
All eyes flew open. Murmurs floated in the air.
I stood up and whispered into Hillel’s ears, “It’s opening prayer”
“Oh, we’re just starting”, he said in wonder.
I couldn’t tell if it was a statement or question, I sat back and bowed my head. In prayers, not shame if I may add. Heaven knows why he’s embarrassing himself.
“Oh..,” Hillel tried to laugh, ” you know, that was the starting line of one of my favorite Nigerian gospel song. I love the song so much I could dance away my sorrows.”
I raised my head up to see others watching Hillel like he was a performing clown.
Frances sighed from her corner, “Can you get down to it already?”
“Oh, yeah,” he said hastily, “may we … Shall we close our eyes for.. as we pray.”
A minute passed.
“So Father..”. Sighs. Shakes head. Deep breath.
“Father Lord God of heaven and earth, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. You created all but none created you. We give you thanks mighty God. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive others, knowingly and unknowingly, consciously and unconsciously. Give us this day our daily bread oh merciful Lord.
That we may continue to thank thee.
And we thank you again and keep on thanking you. It’s not easy to stand or sit or eat or talk but we do these things, why wouldn’t we be grateful? For what you’ve done, what you’re doing and what you will still do, Lord we thank you.
You know we have to cultivate a heart of gratitude unto God at every point in time in our lives. Never ever take God for granted. Just because you can’t see him now shouldn’t be a reason to be far from Him, rather you should draw near ‘cos He’s here. He’s the bestest friend you can ever have at all times, everywhere, everytime. You know sometimes you should try to count your blessings and see that you can’t ‘cos God has been so faithful right from when we were born and today while we are where we are , He’s still with us . You can’t afford to live a life without Christ cos that will be crisis. No one can love you more than He does, no one, believe me. You can …”
“In Jesus’ name we pray”, came Martins’ voice and everyone echoed ‘Amen’.
“Thanks for the sermon, Hillel. God is Love. Never forget that. Now, we move on to today’s agenda”..
Moments like these remind me that life is a beautiful mix of the serious and the silly. One second, you’re trying to pray; the next, you’re giving an unintentional sermon and leaving everyone wondering what just happened.
This blog is my space to capture it all: the awkward laughs, the heartfelt moments, and the random musings that make up the “everything” of life.
