When it comes to writing, you can’t just wake up from sleep and start writing magically. You need something in mind, a subject, topic, niche, person or feeling. You can’t just write anyhow, especially when it comes to fiction.

So the real question is: where does inspiration come from when you need it?
What pushes you to start typing on your keyboard or scribbling in your notebook?

Believe it or not, one of the biggest sources of inspiration is your environment.

Start from your neighborhood.
Your compound.
Your street.
Wherever you live, whether it’s a forest, village, city, mansion, or even a palace, your environment already has stories. No matter how boring or ordinary it looks, it’s enough to inspire a whole plot. And don’t even get me started on the people around you. Different characters are literally everywhere.

Then there’s family, especially extended family (after the nuclear one with your annoying or pleasant siblings/partner).
That uncle with the overflowing money.
That aunt who talks too much.
That cousin who always acts loud and weird.
Everyone has their own personality and attitude. Honestly, they’re walking character references. Whether you realize it or not, they’re already inspiring you.

Your workplace is another goldmine.
The people you work with, conversations you overhear, the tension, drama and small everyday moments, there’s always something there that can turn into a story.

Sometimes, inspiration comes from watching movies, reading books, or even scrolling through videos. Something catches your attention. A line, a scene, a character and suddenly, something sparks up your pen or keyboard. That spark is enough to start writing.

Even simple events, like walking on the road, driving, entering a bus, or taking a public transport can inspire you. Random bickerings or conversations, the silence, chaos, expressions and people’s reactions. Everything counts.

The truth is, inspiration is everywhere.
You don’t have to look too much.

Writing is really about painting pictures with words.
It’s an art replacing images, sounds, and even silence with language. Once you understand that, you’ll realize that motivation doesn’t always come first. Sometimes, you just start writing… and inspiration follows!

Simple!
